The Hay Experts Alfalfa Nibbles are a natural and healthy treat for all small animals - be in no doubt, small animals just LOVE alfalfa!
Packed full of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients, Alfalfal Nibbles are a great source of nutrition. It is high in fibre too, and can help support normal digestive function.
Alfalfa Nibbles are perfect for the young and elderly to help support bone health. Alfalfa Nibbles are also useful in times of illness and can help with inappetance - being one of the first foods eaten when unwell due to its' tastiness and lovely aroma! As it is so rich in nutrients it is a good food to feed during recovery.
Alfalfa is rich in calcium, which is ideal for bone health. It is worth noting we would not recommend Alfalfa in any form to those with bladder or kidney issues due to this high calcium. Our Animal Medicines Advisor is on hand to offer advice on this if you have any concerns.
Alfalfa Nibbles are also a good source of nutrients like potassium, iron, and vitamins A, C, E, and K as well as the calcium, and is high in antioxidants. It is a source of saponins, reputed to support cholesterol reduction and is also a diuretic.
Although often referred to as a hay, alfalfa is part of of the legume family, and, just like peas in the legume family, is also high in protein. Alfalfa is sometimes called lucerne.
Due to its high calcium and protein, we recommend alfalfa be fed as a treat to adult small animals only. The young and elderly can have more for bone health and nutritional support.

Typical Analysis: Crude fibre 31.3%, crude protein 18.7%
Feeding guide: Feed as a treat to adults - it can be added to food, forage, hay or fed solo as desired. The young and elderly will benefit from more alfalfa to help with nutrition and bone growth, but care should be taken to ensure traditional meadow and/or timothy hay be fed alongside and, in the case of the young, alfalfa be reduced down to a treat forage at around 6 months onwards to ensure good hay consumption as they grow to adulthood.
