Alfalfa Hay - 425g (Oxbow)

DESCRIPTION

Sweet, soft Oxbow Alfalfa is high in fibre, calcium, protein, and digestible energy.  Although sometimes referred to as a hay, it is actually a legume plant. Alfalfa is ideal for growing, pregnant, or nursing pets.  Or, offer to your rabbit, chinchilla, guinea pig or other small pet as a treat anytime.

Oxbow Alfalfa is:-
  • Sweet taste and soft texture
  • Ideal for growing, pregnant, or nursing pets
  • Grown specifically for small pets
  • High in fibre for digestive & dental health
  • Premium Oxbow quality
Oxbow Alfalfa is a high-fibre legume plant with the same long-strand fibre found in grass hays, but with more protein, energy and calcium. This hay is perfect for young or lactating animals that need concentrated nutrition. The succulent taste stimulates the appetite of ill or post-surgical animals.

Alfalfa should only be offered carefully to mature rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, and prairie dogs due to the higher protein and calcium content. Many vets believe that animals prone to kidney stones, bladder stones or calcium crystals in their urine should always avoid alfalfa.

Alfalfa can be used to help animals gain weight, and elderly animals should be fed foods they enjoy, such as alfalfa, when considering quality of life. Alfalfa can be used in small amounts as an appetite stimulant for thin or convalescing animals.

Feeding:
Growing, pregnant, or nursing pets: Place large handfuls of alfalfa hay in your pet’s habitat daily.
Mature pets: Offer a pinch of alfalfa as a treat. Mix different grass hays together to enrich your pet’s diet. Try all tastes and textures to discover your pet’s favorite.

Rabbits, guinea pigs and chinchillas under six months of age can be given Alfalfa daily. After six months of age, an animal should begin a gradual transition to 100% grass hay such as Oat Hay, Western Timothy, Orchard Grass etc.

We do not recommend Alfalfa be fed to those with any indication of bladder or kidney issues.
